DANZA

As from 2008, we will be awarding Cash Prizes to winners. All competitors will receive other awards for competing as well!

Open Amateur Dance Competition

Rules/Regulations/ Procedures:
  • Only dancers of amateur status allowed to enter (amateur: don’t receive payment for dancing) and own choreography to be done.
  • Judges decision is final
  • Minimum of 3 entries allowed
  • All awards/gradings & qualifying based on points.
  • Semi & final by invitation only
  • Disqualification if enter under wrong division
  • You cannot be invited twice for the same category/section
Entering a Competition:

  • Enter the category
  • Then the section
  • Then the division
  • include your title
  • You do not compete under titles. Titles simply give you incentives such as a more spectacular outfit or more tricks allowed
Rounds/Heats

There are four rounds per year.
2 Qualifying Rounds
1 Semi-Final
1 Final
Qualifying Rounds

  • Anyone can enter.
  • Every contestant will receive a grading certificate. You can enter as many qualifying rounds as you want provided that you enter before the quota is reached.
  • Points are accumulated during qualifying rounds in order to receive a grading and in order to change title.

Invitations will be issued with each qualifying round to compete in the semi-final or final.

5 competitors/couples and teams per category/section and division invited to compete in semi-final.
Grading only

Semi-Final Round

  • By invitation only.
  • Selection for invitation to semi-final – Selection takes place during qualifying rounds: Only the 5 as explained above allowed to enter.
  • You will need to submit your invitation instead of an entry form.

Final Round
  • By invitation only
  • 3 competitors are selected to compete in the finals. This selection takes place during the semi-final round
  • during this round, placement will be awarded instead of grading.

Deductions

  • exceeding time limit
  • late on the floor once called
  • misconduct and unsportsmanlike behaviour
  • indecent music and outfits
  • singing while dancing
  • improper use of language and professionalism during the event
  • incorrect wear per title

  • Disqualification in enter wrong division.
  • Disqualification if not on the floor 5 minutes after being called.

Tricks Description

A trick is a movement used to spice up your routine. It includes for example: splits, cartwheels, handstands, backbends, walkovers, elbow and head stands, round offs, certain jumps and turns. See Tricks

Competition Schedule/Spectator pass

  • Competitions can be a full 1-2 day event so in order to accommodate audience members, we do not sell tickets.
  • Instead, we sell a day pass which allows spectators to come and go as they please.
  • A competition schedule will be sent to each competitor closer to the event.
  • Spectators can thus plan their day according to the categories/sections/divisions they want to watch.
  • Competitors must make sure that they arrive at least 30 minutes before they need to be on the floor. Competitors must report to the registration table with their title pass. At the registration table, you will have to sign in, pay your registration fee and you will receive your competition number. Venue will be indicated on the schedule. In the event of a title change, you will need to show your official title change letter as proof of changing title.

Please note the following:

Seat bookings must be made in advance, for the Final round. A seating chart will be available. Dress code is Smart/Casual. Ticket prices for Spectators is R20 per person. Bookings can be made on the website (Orders & Bookings)

Disclaimers

Any dancer participating in a Danza Event takes certain incumbent risks. These include but are not limited to sprains, pulled muscles, and broken bones. Participation in this event indicates the acceptance of these risks by attendees and their parents or guardians.
Danza assumes no responsibility for personal injury or property loss at these events. Competitors automatically grant permission to Danza to use their photos for publicity purposes in print ads, brochures, and the like. We do not accept any liability for infringement of copyright with regards to music or routines.

R40 per entry per person – qualifying rounds
R80 per entry per person – semi-final round

Please note that final entry fees have to be paid in advance.


Registered/Accepted Entries

  • If your entry is accepted, you will be notified via e-mail or fax so please make sure to add your contact details on the entry form.
  • You need to report to the registration table on the day of the competition, where you will need to pay your fees and sign in.
  • You will receive competition number.
  • You will receive your title pass (if first entry)
  • In the event of a title change, you will need to provide your official title change letter as proof.
